My Brother Can’t Possibly Be a Fallen Magical Girl Chapter 4 Part 1
Chapter 4 The Magical Girl Phantom Butterfly (Page 1)
In the wetland park near Changhong Road,
a magical girl clutched her emerald-green crystal wand while hovering high in the air, her expression grave as she gazed at the forest under the night sky.
Her deep blue, ocean-clear twin tails shimmered brilliantly, and her sleek, dark green dress, edged with a faint black sheen, fell just past her knees.
Snow-white stockings perfectly covered her slender legs, while the strapless dress left her delicate, rounded shoulders fully exposed.
In the forest, fireflies danced gracefully among the trees, and summer cicadas sang, creating a serene nightscape that seemed almost enchanting.
Yet, when a disaster beast intruded, the scene transformed into a deadly trap—a hunter in the darkness, waiting silently to devour its prey.
Despite her years of martial arts training, she couldn’t help but feel a chilling sense of danger emanating from the shadows.
“Xiao Qing, don’t act rashly. Wait for me and Xiao Xue to arrive before making a move.”
A steady female voice came through the Bluetooth earpiece—it was Chen Yuyu, the leader of their Iris Magical Girl team.
“Alright, I’ll wait for you,” she replied.
But her words didn’t match her actions.
The lingering sense of danger gnawed at her, making her restless.
She refused to believe that a magical girl like her—a rookie who had been rated by Xiao Ai as having S-tier talent upon her transformation—could be afraid of a mere [Meteor]-level calamity beast.
[Meteor]-level beasts might have been formidable in the past, but after the third Black Tide crisis, humanity’s technological advancements had grown exponentially.
Often, humans could eliminate such threats without even needing magical girls.
This was her first mission, and she was determined to make it a perfect success.
Chanting an incantation, Bai Youqing slowly descended onto a clearing.
Compared to floating in the air, where she felt like an exposed target, standing on solid ground gave her a greater sense of security.
At the same time, she began waving her wand, chanting spells to illuminate the surrounding darkness with a brilliant green light, scanning the area to ensure her safety.
However, her detection spell didn’t seem to work as intended. Instead, the chilling sense of danger grew even stronger.
The air in the quiet wetland park was refreshing, carrying a faint floral scent that was intoxicating.
Bai Youqing took a deep breath and called out,
“Xiao Ai?”
“I’m here. What music would you like me to play, Master?”
“We’re in the middle of a battle! Stop joking around. Do you have any way to detect the calamity beast’s traces?”
“Yes, and there are many methods.”
As Bai Youqing called out, a small, glowing green sprite emerged from her Verdant Star Wand.
The magical sprites that guided magical girls in their transformations were known as “Sowers.” Typically, the World Tree would assign only one Sower to each city. However, Bai Youqing later learned that Xiao Ai, her magical sprite, hadn’t been sent by the World Tree.
“Great, give me the simplest one, and I’ll do it.”
Bai Youqing felt a surge of relief, surprised that the usually lazy sprite could be useful for once.
“Abyssal Aura Tracking, Calamity Beast Insight, Abyssal... I know plenty,” Xiao Ai rattled off like a menu, but after listing five or six, she stopped and said with a look of disdain,
“But unfortunately, you either don’t have enough magic power or aren’t high enough level to use any of them. There’s nothing I can do.”
“So, is there any skill I can actually use?”
The little sprite hovering in the air thought for a moment, then tilted her head and spread her tiny hands under Bai Youqing’s expectant gaze. “Nope.”
“Xiao Ai, you’re so useless. You’re only slightly better than my good-for-nothing brother,” Bai Youqing said, making a small, mocking gesture with her thumb and forefinger.
“...Even though I’m not the most useless in your eyes, I’m still very angry. If I don’t get two puddings this week, this anger isn’t going away!”
The emerald-green sprite fluttered in the air, visibly annoyed, though her eyes kept darting toward the forest with concern.
“Lastly, I suggest you leave the wetland park now and wait for your teammates. Most heroines in stories who act recklessly like you end up ambushed by calamity beasts and... well, let’s just say it doesn’t end well.”
