The Warden of the Witches Chapter 211

 Chapter 211 - Abigail's Visit

Upon hearing Isabella's response, Kyle's eyes widened in surprise. He rarely faced such setbacks.

How is this possible? With my innate charm combined with the powerful strength of a vampire prince, how could a mere mortal remain indifferent!?

After a brief moment of contemplation, he turned around and tried to use simple blood magic to draw blood from his fingertips, only to find that nothing happened.

The magic... isn't flowing.

He discovered the reason.

The magic was being suppressed. This prison, including this reception area, seemed to be equipped with devices that could seal magic.

So that's it... It's not my own problem. Realizing this, Kyle breathed a sigh of relief.

Isabella, sitting by the window, watched the startled vampire prince and couldn't help but frown.

What's wrong with this guy?

Kyle turned his face again. "Then, can I see your leader?"

"Are you planning to... go through the warden?" Isabella asked bluntly, seeing that the other party didn't seem to be hiding his intentions.

"I just want to discuss something. I really have something important to see Ophelia about." Kyle smiled broadly.

"I can pass on the message for you, but I have to remind you that even if you see the warden, he most likely won't allow it. Besides, he probably won't see any visitors today. He mentioned that he has a very important guest coming this afternoon," Isabella replied calmly.

"A guest?" Kyle was taken aback.

"Excuse me..." A blonde girl appeared behind Kyle, peering toward the window.

"Hello," Isabella immediately shifted her gaze to the girl and raised her hand in greeting.

Since his request for a meeting had been rejected, Kyle had no choice but to step aside, allowing the girl behind him to come forward.

"I have an appointment with the warden. The name is Alice Liddell," the young woman said.

"Ah, Miss Liddell, right? The warden has informed us in advance. Please take this temporary pass and follow the passage over there. A guard will lead you inside," Isabella directed the visitor.

The visitor named Alice accepted the pass and then entered the corridor guarded by prison officers.

...

Several minutes later, "Alice Liddell" appeared in the warden's office.

"Welcome, the apex Witch..." Aiden warmly greeted her as he rose from his desk once the guard who led her in had closed the door. "How should I address you now? Abigail? Or... Miss Liddell?"

Alice Liddell—this was the alias Abigail had arranged to use when visiting Aiden. According to Abigail, this was her "mother's" name, originally given by her "grandmother," the nameless witch who founded the Flying Spaghetti Monster cult.

Aiden wasn't surprised by the full name when he heard it. Alice Liddell was the name of the real-life inspiration for the protagonist of the famous fairy tale "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." It was clear that the predecessor who named her "daughter" had borrowed it directly.

"Just call me Abigail. I'm more used to it," Abigail said as she sat down in the guest chair and took a sip of the red tea prepared for her.

"Honestly, looking at you like this feels quite strange," Aiden remarked, also sitting back down and picking up his tea cup. "Is this appearance a disguise?"

The current appearance of Abigail was completely different from how Aiden had seen her when she summoned him in that space. Her height, build, and even her voice didn't match. Not to mention, she had those demon-like long horns on her head back then.

"Yes, I have several 'templates' I use for going out, ranging from young to old, male to female," Abigail replied calmly. "If necessary, I can also transform into an animal."

Aiden thought that the transformation ability must be part of the "Life" authority's powers. Lamia had mentioned that the "Life" authority could easily alter the shapes of living beings and create chimeras that regular alchemy couldn't sustain. So, changing appearances or even transforming into animals was naturally within its capabilities.

To meet Abigail, Aiden had specifically ordered the prison's magic-sealing barrier to run at overcapacity temporarily. Even the legendary most powerful witch wouldn't be able to use a shred of magic under these conditions.

However, Aiden knew that this measure alone didn't make him significantly safer. After all, the barrier could seal dark magic but couldn't suppress divine words, and sitting before him was a "saint" who was close to an authority.

"I was really surprised when you said you wanted to visit me," Aiden said, trying to appear calm as he sipped his tea. "I always thought you were the type to never leave your home... I've heard that you only meet those grand witches you've recognized, and even then through the tokens. Even When the cult besieged the Sabbath Forest, you didn't leave either."

Being in the same room with someone as dangerous as Abigail, it's impossible not to feel nervous.

But Aiden knew very well that he couldn't show any sign of such emotions. When Abigail proposed to visit him, he didn't refuse because he quickly realized that if Abigail wanted to see him, he couldn't stop her nor avoid her.

Now that Abigail was here, he hadn't arranged for any guards to be present because he knew it would be pointless. Being overly cautious would only make it obvious to Abigail that he was bluffing.

Although it was a bit risky, it was a risk he had to take.

"I do go out and visit other grand witches, just not often," Abigail replied calmly. "I have my workshop in the Sabbath Forest, which holds my lifetime of research and serves as the gathering place for witches... I usually don't leave easily. The last time I went out... should be five years ago."

"So should I feel honored to be graced with your special visit?" Aiden smiled.

"It couldn't be helped. Our transaction can only be completed face-to-face," Abigail shifted the topic from small talk to business.

Aiden nodded. "May I ask, did you bring what I requested?"

Abigail nodded and took out a glass orb from her pocket. "This is the golem core made by Vera. As long as you smear your own blood on it and feed it to the mercury golem, the golem will recognize you as its master. There's a small hole in the core. Insert a hair into it, and you can command the golem to track a target."

With that, Abigail tossed the glass orb to Aiden. Aiden caught it and immediately began to experiment. After smearing his blood on it, he threw the glass orb to the mercury ball that had been motionless in the corner.

With the sealing barrier operational and the "Order" divine words at his disposal, he wasn't worried about the witches' coven tampering with this device.

After swallowing the glass orb, the mercury ball began to ripple as if boiling. It then transformed into a humanoid shape—a figure similar in build to Aiden.
